The Abkhazian Blind and Deaf-and-Dumb Union "Hera”, which is non-governmental, non-commercial organization based on civil initiatives, was founded on 17 of July, 2000 and registered by Sukhumi City and District Court.
The main objectives of the Union are the social-psychological, medical rehabilitation, legal and social protection and promotion of employment of invalid displaced persons from Abkhazia.
The Union "Hera” cooperates with a number of international organizations that help to realize long-term and short-term projects. From 15 November 2004 "Hera” has become the associative member of the World Federation of the Deaf-blind.
At the current stage the Union "Hera” incorporates 780 people with visual and hearing disabilities including blind and deaf-and-dumb people.
Among them:
"Samegrelo-Svaneti” – 259 persons;
"Imereti-Racha region” – 227 persons;
Tbilisi-east Georgian regional organization – 297 persons..
